Jeff Jones is the sports director and weekday anchor at KVUE in Austin, Texas. He joined the team in August 2019. Prior to moving to Austin, he was on-air at the CBS affiliate in Raleigh, North Carolina, where he spent 3-years covering the Carolina Panthers, Charlotte Hornets, as well as Division I and high school athletics in North Carolina. As a former student-athlete (football) at Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas Jeff has used that experience to make him a better storyteller and sports anchor.
Jones studied communications at Trinity University and after completing his undergraduate work he earned two Masters’ degrees in education and communications.
Just months after graduating, Jones won a national talent search that allowed him to travel to the NBA All-Star Game, as the league’s “All-Star Reporter.”
In 2014, Jones began his career as a sports reporter and anchor for WOAI in San Antonio. There he learned to juggle the responsibilities of covering a professional NBA team and college sports. August 2016, Jones joined the sports team at CBS North Carolina, just in time for football season!
When he isn’t on-air, Jones enjoys working out, watching movies, and cheering for his beloved Auburn Tigers (it’s a long story, but he’s a huge fan).
Jones is a member of the National Association of Black Journalists.
